What is Diversity in Information Technology (DivIT)?
It is a new focus group at TUM IAS that is run by newly-appointed Anna Boyksen Fellow Andreea Molnar and her host Anne Brüggemann-Klein.
What is the purpose of DivIT?
DivIT investigates which information on and experiences with the field in combination with personal, cultural and gender-related factors influence female students at the secondary level of education to decide for or against university studies in the field of information technology.
- DivIT identifies and characterises initiatives that promote IT among female and diverse students at the secondary level of education in Germany.
- DivIT tracks what influence these initiatives have on students’ decisions for a field of study inside or outside of IT.
- DivIT relates to personal factors of influence, such as values, identity and life mission.
- Based on the results of these investigations, DivIT investigates, how IT departments best design the application process so that interested students take the crucial step to apply and actually enrol once they have been accepted.
- DivIT develops a set of principles, best practices and action guidelines based on the characteristics of successful initiatives.
What is the agenda for the kick-off meeting?
- Anna Boyksen Fellow Andreea Molnar will introduce DivIT.
- We welcome your input on pertinent initiatives at TUM with the purpose of including them into DivIT research, and we are interested in collaborations.
- We will have an open discussion on aspects of DivIT that are of interest to the community.
