The Daycare Center Forscherzwerge is located on the ground floor of a rented property, near metro station Stiglmaierplatz in Munich. You can easily reach the facility from TUM main campus by foot.

Facility

The facility has a spacious and bright common area which offers diverse playing opportunities. The wardrobe and kitchen are integrated in the common area but for safety reasons not accessible for children during the day. There is also a separate recreation room from which the shared backyard can be entered. Meals are provided in cooperation with a caterer.

Operator

In October 2023, Engel & Mahr GbR took over the operation of the Forscherzwerge daycare center. The new provider has many years of experience in the field of daycare and operates several daycare centers in the city of Munich. As a cooperation partner of the City Youth Welfare Office, it receives corresponding financial support. The operator hires the childcare staff, coordinates them and accompanies them pedagogically, takes care of the operation of the facility as well as the communication with the parents and the City Youth Welfare Office.

Childcare spots

In the Forscherzwerge daycare center, three caregivers (one pedagogical specialist and two childminders) look after a maximum of 10 children who are present at the same time. Each child is personally assigned to one of the caregivers, which is specified in the care contract. The target group is 0- to 3-years-old children of TUM employees. Full-time care places with 8-9 hours per day or part-time care places with 5-6 hours per day can be booked.

Concept

For detailed information about the facility, the concept (in German) is available here.

Closing days

There are a total of 30 closing days per calendar year.

Application / Contact person

Please contact TUM Family Service first (Doris Halm, e-mail).

  • Following registration conditions to childcare facilities of TUM and Studentenwerk München apply.
  • Interested families need to reside in the city of Munich.
  • Application is possible during pregnancy since daycare is available also for children under 1 year.
  • Care is provided 5 days a week and can be booked either full time (8-9 hrs/day) or part time (5-6 hrs/day).
  • Interested parents will be given the opportunity to arrange an individual visit with the provider and the respective potential caregiver.

  • The allocation of places is expected to start in March for the next daycare period, with childcare usually starting in September.
  • It is possible to allocate a place during the year due to cancellation (e.g. due to moving away), so that any admission date can be specified. In this case, parents on the waiting list will be contacted as soon as a free place is announced.
  • Places are allocated by the operator of the facility in close coordination with TUM Family Service.

  • The parental contributions are based on the hours booked.
  • In the Forscherzwerge daycare center full-time places (8-9 hours/day) cost 90 €/month and part-time places (5-6 hours/day) cost 58 €/month. Meals are included.
  • Families with several children can receive a sibling discount. As soon as a family has an older child for whom child benefits are received, the daycare fees for the younger child can be reduced by 50%. If there are two or more older siblings, the youngest child would even be free of charge.
