Social Commitment

TUM gets involved for inclusion to empower people with disabilities or chronic illnesses to fully participate in society.

Special Olympics Deutschland

TUM supports Special Olympics Deutschland, the biggest sport event in Germany for people with mental or multiple disabilities. In 2012, the Games took place at the TUM Campus in Munich’s Olympic Park. Several TUM Departments such as the Department of Training Science and Sport Informatics and the Department of Sport and Health Education took part in organization and preparation. Students refereed and tutored at the Games.

The congress “Behinderung, Bewegung, Befreiung – Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Inklusion” took place at TUM right after the Special Olympics 2012. Participants discussed conceptual considerations of inclusion and their practical implementation and relevance.

In 2015, the Winter Games took place in Inzell. Here too, TUM was involved with its Department of Sport and Health Education and the Schülerforschungszentrum Berchtesgadener Land.
